Ella Rothschild
Dance like Achilles
In this workshop, we’ll dive into exploring fresh material for an upcoming production. We’ll create movement sequences and explore how abstract motion can serve as a tool for personal expression, infusing it with subtext. Together, we’ll develop movement using text-based exercises to unlock new possibilities in motion. Through these exercises, we’ll examine how text can shape movement and discover the dynamic interplay between language and physical expression in shared space. Participants will create scenes guided by narrative or physical prompts. As scenes accumulate, we’ll weave together a series of striking images, building a cohesive story— a rich tapestry of vivid, interconnected moments. Mythic tales like Orpheus and Eurydice’s love and loss, or Icarus and Glaucus’s daring fights, will inspire us, adding layers of timeless conflict and powerful narrative potential. Working solo, in pairs, and groups, participants will collaborate to develop materials that become the building blocks for these scenes. This workshop invites you to explore how narrative can be brought to life through both individual expression and collective storytelling.
