Alexandros el greco
dancer with ultima vez / la otra familia
This workshop has dance at its epicentre, while addressing a mix of other elments: acrobatics, improvisation, performativity, composition, body awareness, musicality and creative tools. Acrobatix, literally meaning walking at the edge, represents the challenge to expand our limits and develop new capacities. Those are physical capacities - new movements, potency, coordination, and mobility, as much as mental ones - developing the creative, expressive and transformative sides of movement. Organic represents the process of habitualizing the new range of capacities and linking it with each person’s individual bodies and experience. This allows the information to be absorbed and used it in an effortless and personal way. The entire process involves building a strong group dynamic along with all the students. Within that, each of us is compelled to discover their individual potential. That way, we aim to flourish as dancers, as movers, as creators and of course, to enjoy every step of the process.
some workshops offer group improvisation or partnering. these workshops elements may or may not be possible and the teachers and choreographers will modify their workshops accordingly in line with the health and safety measures required at the time. please stay flexible. thank you!
Raised in Thessaloniki, Greece, Alexandros holds both a degree in Physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and a degree of Dance from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance. His curiosity for movement led him to practice disciplines such as Breakdancing, Gymnastics, Martial arts, Circus, Parcour, Theatre and eventually Contemporary Dance, which became his long term dedication. His interest lies in challenging the boundaries of the genre in regards to performativity, physicality and creativity. He cherishes improvisation and pursues to mix disparate elements inside of his work. His great passion has been the exchange and communication present throughout a creative process. This led him to various collaborations, most notable of which are with the La Otra Familia collective, with Patricia Hastewell, with the Dance and the Mind collective, and with jazz musicians such as Don Kapot and Giotis Damianidis. He has also been working and touring worldwide as a dancer for renowned choreographers such as Wim Vandekeybus/Ultima Vez, Alexander Vantournhout/Not Standing and Julyen Hamilton/Allen’s line, all of whom have informed his own work and given clues to his search for his own unique artistic identity. He is a passionate teacher, steadily developing his pedagogic approach in the past nine years with his Organic Acrobatix classes, which he has taught in various European festivals and educational platforms.
la otra familia
We are two dance artists who have been collaborating for more than 6 years, making and performing work under the name of La Otra Familia. The first piece we performed together was the quartet All these places have their moments by Patricia Hastewell. It toured Europe wide and won the Audience award in the Certamen Coreografico de Madrid in 2016. It was followed by the duet Bardo Vals, also by Patricia. we premiered it in 2016 and are still performing it to this day. Our newest creation is the collectively created duet, Deriva. La Otra Familia is currently based in between Brussels and Barcelona.
