embodying poetic state
here is an invitation to open a world with me, to get lost, and to deepen in practice together. we will awaken a physical language through a guided landscape of improvisation, first starting in specific subtlety, attention to functional detail. we identify our form, so to be able to deviate from it, to distort, to dis-figure, to de-form. we will grow from an intimate sphere towards an outward charge, from the floor and through space, from individual attention and then with input from one another. i will offer choreographic material to investigate, to play, to make one's own in the context of a score we will uncover together. in the plentitude of words to describe physical philosophy, i am personally interested in individual expression, intuition, choice making. my aim is to create the creative parameters, which allows the mind to plug in, the body's intelligence to speak, and for expression to find duration. i will bring with me visual, audio, and writing input from which we can draw inspiration.
some workshops offer group improvisation or partnering. these workshops elements may or may not be possible and the teachers and choreographers will modify their workshops accordingly in line with the health and safety measures required at the time. please stay flexible. thank you!
lea ved is a filipino/indian performer, choreographer, and collaborator, originally from america, currently based in the netherlands with nederlands dans theatre. her years as a professional dancer have ranged from roots in breakdance and hip-hop with victor quijada/rubberbandance group in montreal, canada, to performing mats ek's role of julia in julia & romeo with the royal swedish ballet in stockholm. since graduating from the juilliard school in 2013, she has worked both as a freelance artist and repertoire company dancer — creating with crystal pite, hofesh shechter, sharon eyal, yoann bourgeois, among others — and meanwhile sharing workshops, pursuing creative exchange, and developing as a choreographer. her hybrid background in different circles of dance culture, particularly the rubberbandance cyphers, has lent itself to an evolving process of physical research and creation, seeped in individual expression and collaboration, also taking influence from visual art, film, and writing. she has made work on the small stage with göteborgsoperans danskompani, ndt's switch program, and korzo theater. her work, darling we're nowhere but here, landed her a partner award with club guy & roni at the rotterdam international duet choreography competition (ridcc), where she will work in the coming year, alongside a creative residency with the heavy hitters breakdance crew and her next choreographic premiere with göteborgsoperans danskompani in may 2022.
