United States of tension
we move between freedom and restriction, willingness and rebellion. we choose to switch between instinct and information. we drift, we flow, we cut between physical qualities and psychological states that co-exist, belonging to each other, yet simultaneously striving to maintain their identity. we bring structure to improvisation and invite freedom to invade what is set. we dissociate, we black out, we remain present. states of tension: transforming the narrative of movement, language and performance. this workshop will focus on finding freedom within restriction and transforming the narratives we build, both in performance and personally.
please be aware of our early bird special offer for this workshop! you can apply for this offer up until the 24th of march 2023. after the 24th the regular workshop fee applies. applications are accepted up until one day before the workshops starts.
a graduate of rambert school in london, cree has spent the last decade working in contemporary dance and dance theatre, first as a freelance dancer and teacher in the uk, and then as a member of the johannes wieland company at the state theatre of kassel from 2015 to 2019. most recently, cree has worked with christopher roman (us/de), marina mascarell (es/nl), elisabeth schilling (de/lu), johannes wieland (de/us), as well as working on punchdrunk’s the third day: autumn (hbo/sky arts). her choreographic work has been seen at theatres and festivals, including staatstheater kassel, the place, b12 festival, mayfest bristol, royal opera house’s linbury theatre, and sadler's wells’ lillian baylis studio. cree has also moderated talks for b12’s deep space and critical mass platforms and believes that the discussion and interview formats are critical in connecting us as individuals through our experiences while also challenging the structures of dance and the arts. her practice has a somatic focus, stemming from the need to emphasise physical and mental wellbeing in symbiosis. her aim is to use language and conscious awareness of her own experience to create spaces in which people feel safe, confident and respected to freely contribute, share and exchange. she has an interest in storytelling, seeing ourselves and understanding our humanness through movement, theatricality and language specificity.
