Hoyoung Im
Momentum in space
The warm-up routine combines elements from both ashtanga yoga and tae kwon do. It consists of a gradual progression of movements, including circular motions, which help to absorb and regenerate energy in space. Through improvisational exercises involving vertical and horizontal body movements, participants improve their overall body awareness. This increased body consciousness is then applied to improvisational exercises that explore space using the four elements of nature - fire, water, earth, and wind. Subsequently, participants will engage in training that focuses on acrobatic skills, floorwork techniques, tae kwon do, and traditional Korean dance movements. Throughout these activities, emphasis is placed on maintaining proper center of gravity control. Each movement is carefully arranged to allow for different choreographies of varying tempos and genres, reflecting the unique style and characteristics of choreographer Hoyoung Im. The main objective of this class is to enhance the participants' physical capabilities, effectively guiding their movement in space, while incorporating the philosophy and distinctive energy of Hoyoung Im.

biography
Hoyoung is a Korean artist, choreographer, contemporary dance lecturer, music composer, sound designer, film maker, and visual artist. He currently lives between Germany and South Korea. Hoyoung has a degree in film and theatre and has been working in the arts since 2010, initially as an actor. Throughout his career, he has developed his own unique theatrical approach through a range of genres including acting, experimental theatre, physical theatre, and documentary theatre. He not only performs but also creates his own theatre productions. After moving to Europe, Hoyoung expanded his repertoire by incorporating his diverse artistic skills such as acting, music composition and video production. In his artistic work, he focuses on storytelling through a cognitive psychology lens, exploring how historical events have shaped the lives and culture of individuals. Critics have praised his ability to create physical theatre that is distinctive and impactful.
