Luke Murphy
dance theatre & performance
no class videos, no self-promotion, no 'let me show you how its done', no doing what you're good at just to show how good you are. Embracing the creative process as a chaotic, vulnerable, violent, exciting, intimate, and volatile experience, we will come together, take a deep breath, and simply go to work. I hope to create a space that enables performers who want to work, who want to find new languages, and want to dig deeper to be able to do their best work. What makes an honest performance? what makes a consistent performer? I hope to foster an atmosphere of support and safety amongst the company so that we can interrogate the fundamental conflicts of the theatrical itself: Friction between the performer and the content; Contradiction between the awareness of moving in space and the internalisation needed to realise a character; Conflict of sound and action and imagery; Hostility between the controlled atmosphere of the theatre and the chaos of instinct. Each day will start with a physical warm-up, moving into exercises to open our bodies' sphere and reach our individual widest ranges of texture and physical availability. We will examine how the abstraction of movement can be contextualised to inform meaning, and where the power of ambiguity can be harnessed to provoke thought. The outcome might not be the objective, but where we look at conflict, we might find resolution.
please be aware of our early bird special offer for this workshop! you can apply for this offer up until the 24th of march 2024. after the 24th the regular workshop fee applies. applications are accepted up until one day before the workshops starts.
