Body into voice - Voice into body
As a dancer looking for my voice, I was often met with the idea that, with my background, finding my voice would somehow be difficult because of wrong breathing. In fact, the voice is part of the body and, therefore, both complement each other and, so far, nothing stands in the way of a dancer finding his/her voice. At the same time, finding one’s voice is a never ending, always evolving path, so it definitely never gets boring. We are constantly on the way, so to speak. It is that journey that I want to continue to explore together with the participants. The workshop will start with a short Yoga and breathing practice in order to wake up our body, before we get into sound. during the course of the workshop, elements of the work of the Lichtenberg institute, where I am completing my studies at the moment, might come into play. We will work in groups, as well as individually, so that we can learn by also listening to to others and overcoming our own fear of speaking up. The participants are encouraged to bring material, in the form of songs or text, that they would like to work on, But that is not a must.

biography
Meimouna Coffi is a German-beninian dancer and singer. After attaining her BA in dance at Codarts, she became a member of the Rotterdamse Dansgroep under the direction of Ton Simmons. She then moved to Paris, where she worked with Georges Momboyes, as well as in musical productions by Luc Plamondon and Jérôme Savary. Back in Germany, she returned to her contemporary roots and appeared as a guest in a variety of companies, such as the Staatstheater Kassel under the direction of Johannes Wieland. Parallel to that, singing moved more and more into the center of her work. After two productions at the Theater Basel, she got mainly into musical theatre all across Germany and Austria. a few of her stations have been The Opera Leipzig with West Side Story, the Landestheater Linz with Hairspray, Motown-The Legend on tour, The Mozarteum Salzburg with Mass, and, recently, Vincent Van Gogh at the Musical Frühling Gmunden. In 2020 she performed her own piece, Shameless, a multidisciplinary performance, in Cotonou, Benin. currently, she is pursuing her vocal research at the Lichtenberger Institut für angewandte Stimmphysiologie.
