Sophia Ndaba
universal language: Animal, environment & the collective unconcious
i'm compelled to research choreography that has a universal resonance. i do this by looking at what is common in our human experience. the research has been formalised into a number of practicable themes, 3 of which we will explore and embody over the 4 day research. they are: animal, environment, and the collective unconscious. explorations of the collective unconscious are largely influenced by the work of psychoanalyst, carl jung, who presents the theory that we all have ancestral memory in our subconscious brain. detailing an inherited system of primitive images from our earliest human ancestors, called archetypes, that inform the personality and how it responds to the world. the research addresses each theme through movement meditations. as it evolves and deepens, a performance practice is set up in the space together with specific parameters; creating a world of meaning, relationship and co-existence. each day before the research starts, we will prepare by passing through a warm-up/training session of foundational floor work, release technique, and improvisation.
please be aware of our early bird special offer for this workshop! you can apply for this offer up until the 24th of march 2023. after the 24th the regular workshop fee applies. applications are accepted up until one day before the workshops starts.
