internal and external motion, exploration and emotion
it always starts with an invitation to calm the mind and the body with exercises of breathing, yoga and meditation. these tools are designed to develop clarity of mind, in order to connect with the body in a more sensitive way. together, we will explore how movement can be initiated from within and move outwards, as well as the other way around. as we begin to move through improvisation exercises, i invite the dancers to always remain in circulation and awareness of the internal flow that is already present, breathing and playing with gravity. breathing consciously seems to be a way to hack into your self-esteem. a way to say: give yourself a break. a way to just accept you as you and life as life. and all you need for that is a pair of lungs. i want to use weight and connection to the floor to travel between fluidity and stability, which are inseparable from my approach to artistic language. the attention that we give to all of the characteristics of the human body will allow us to build new ways of experiencing movement; building trust and letting go, while opening a new path within yourself and your dancing.
please be aware of our early bird special offer for this workshop! you can apply for this offer up until the 24th of march 2023. after the 24th the regular workshop fee applies. applications are accepted up until one day before the workshops starts.
biography
Antonin Rioche has always been a creator and a storyteller, and dance happens to be one of his predominant mediums. He is also passionate about painting, photographing, and filming. Antonin creates through different lenses of expression. Movement is a root of creation but not automatically the starting point. His works often depart from a text that he writes. From there, poetic interpretations emerge. Time passing is a recurrent theme in his pieces. For Korzo he created The Others, and Finally a sign of life, both for Here we live and now, editions 2018 and 2019. In 2021, he was invited by Nederlands Dans Theater and Korzo to create his first full-length evening performance, Glitter. He will present a new full-length evening performance in October 2022, Ohgirl!, co-produced by Nederlands Dans Theater. Aside from stage works, Antonin works often with the medium film. His first solo in 2017, Oh boy! and his latest film, The Research Project, The Leftovers, have been nominated and selected for several film festivals and awards.
