United States of tension

we move between freedom and restriction, willingness and rebellion. we choose to switch between instinct and information. we drift, we flow, we cut between physical qualities and psychological states that co-exist, belonging to each other, yet simultaneously striving to maintain their identity. we bring structure to improvisation and invite freedom to invade what is set. we dissociate, we black out, we remain present. states of tension: transforming the narrative of movement, language and performance. this workshop will focus on finding freedom within restriction and transforming the narratives that we build, both in performance and personally.

please be aware of our early bird special offer for this workshop! you can apply for this offer up until the 24th of march 2024. after the 24th the regular workshop fee applies. applications are accepted up until one day before the workshops starts.

Cree is a graduate of Rambert School and has worked in contemporary dance and dance theatre for over a decade, first as a freelance dancer and teacher in the UK, and then as a member of the Johannes Wieland company at the State Theater Kassel. Most recently, she has collaborated with Elisabeth Schilling (DE/LU), Christopher Roman (US/DE), Marina Mascarell (ES/NL), Johannes Wieland (DE/US), as well as appeared on film in Issey Miyake’s Rhizome, choreographed by Holly Blakey, Punchdrunk’s The Third Day: Autumn (HBO/Sky Arts), Richard Malone and Isabel Amelia Garrett’s rehearsal, for London Fashion Week and Centro Centro Madrid, and short film, Change, choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. Her choreographic works have been seen at theatres and festivals including Staatstheater Kassel, The Place London, b12 Festival Berlin, Mayfest Bristol, London’s Royal Opera House Linbury Theatre, and Sadler's Wells’ Lillian Baylis Studio. Cree has moderated and curated artist talks and panel discussions in Berlin for b12 Festival and Trauma Bar und Kino around personal and career sustainability, navigating artistic, economic and psychological challenges in the dance field, and the silent dancer and self-advocation. She believes the discussion and interview formats to be critical in connecting us as individuals through our experiences, while also challenging the structures of dance and the arts.
