SHAPESHIFTING DYNAMICS
joy's workshop is a training made up of different movement techniques. her versatile background in traditional, classical, urban and contemporary dance caused her to develop an interesting mix of movement qualities. in joy’s workshop we will practice grounded, dynamic physicality and grooves which strengthen the presence and virtuosity in space, as well as the details in articulating and isolating body parts in connection with musicality and rhythmical patterns. the participants will do exercises and also learn choreographic material with these elements, but they will also have the possibility to engage in their own creativity and individual qualities with improvisational tasks, in order to go deeper into different body states and expressions within the given context by Joy. the photographer corinna rosteck will accompany this workshop taking pictures.

biography
Joy Alpuerto Ritter was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Freiburg in Breisgau, Germany. In her youth she was trained in ballet, jazz, philippine and polynesian folk dance, and graduated at the Palucca School in Dresden, Germany, with a dance diploma. She started working as a freelance contemporary dancer in and around Berlin, with choreographers like Christoph Winkler, Constanza Macras, Heike Hennig, Yui Kawaguchi and Wangramirez. During this time she expanded her repertory in urban dance styles like hip hop, breaking, voguing, and was active in the urban dance scene in europe. In 2011 she joined Cirque du Soleil as a dancer and aerial artist for the Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour. Since 2013 she has been touring as a dancer and rehearsal director of the Akram Khan Company and has been nominated as outstanding female dancer (modern), for the Performance Until the Lions, by the National Dance Awards UK. With her own solo work Babae (2016), she found international response as a choreographer and is one of the Aerowaves artists of 2020. As a choreographer, Joy has been creating her own work that has been performed all over Europe and in Los Angeles USA, London UK, Daegu China and Moscow Russia. She has also been collaborating with academic institutions as a teacher and creator in Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD), Dance Arts Faculty Rome (DAF) and Beijing dance academy, Kalamata Dance Festival, STEPS Festival in Switzerland, and in dance schools in Berlin.
