Johannes Wieland
this interdisciplinary performance project area 51 by johannes will use a location to create a site-specific piece, collaborating with a dance film workshop led by chrysanthi badeka. both teams will be in contact at different times, and on one day we will practice altogether in intensive shootings to create short dance film versions of the characters, invented during the rehearsals. in the end of the project, we will present the site-specific performance in the physical space in an open sharing event.
there will be also screenings of the short dance films produced through the collaboration with the filming team. this hybrid performance project is designed for about 17 people and lasts 13 days (friday off). it will be performed at least two times at a site-specific location. johannes' performance project area 51 runs from july 21 to august 2, 2025.

framing performance project area 51
johannes' team of performers will start with a character build - everyone has to invent a character. during the project, we will discuss the foundation of a convincing character and what it means to perform it. we will also build little islands of ideas, which we will create and thread together. they can be theatrical, very physical, voice directed, or anything in between. space will influence us and we will influence space.
the team of filming practitioners will work closely together with chrysanthi badeka, getting themselves familiar with the basic cinematographic principles, storyboarding, decoupage, reperage, dynamic filming with gimbal and other cinematic equipment. on specific dates they will be in one space with us. they will observe the characters and the storylines we will develop, analysing the movement and body narrations. we will co-work on the pre-production phase, the reconstruction of the choreography for the camera and the shootings.
everyone who is interested is welcome, whether dancers, physical performers, actors/actresses, singers, circus artists etc. please be ready to create, take risks, both physically and emotionally.
b12 will provide the final outputs to all participants from both teams (short dance films and the documentation video of the site-specific performance). All the digital outputs can be shared publicly.
if you are interested in a performance project and a cinematographic experience full of adventure and cross pollination, one of these two teams might be for you!
