dim timbre

in this process, we will all try to find our dim timbre - dark/stupid voice. using principles not just from dance but from mask, mime and clown work to approach creation. the work often demands versatility from the performers, needing to switch quickly between genres, movement styles and characters. the work is very concept driven, they themselves tend to swirl around the ideas of satire, sardonic humour and straight out randomness. previous 3 pieces were based around; retro-futuristic androids being controlled by an incompetent AI, a circus piece where every performer was Susan during a psychology appointment, and a medieval look at what it is to be human. it's all about world-building and the more surreal the world, the better. we will have an idea, run with it, play with it, tear it to shreds, look at it upsidown, and wonder if we are making terrible mistakes. decide thaT WE ARE, AND CONTINUE ANYWAY UNTIL THE PIECE EMERGES FROM THE ASHES OF OUR INSECURITIES.

Sam Coren - Dim timbre

dim timbre translates to dark/stupid voice. which seems a perfect description of sam's choreographic practice. mixing dance with mask, mime and clowning the work generally has themes of sardonic humour, absurdity and satire. sam usually works via commission preferring the collaboration and challenge that comes with smashing a bunch of new people together in a space and seeing what comes out. this in turn tends to create pieces that vary from project to project, sometimes becoming more theatrical, sometimes more physical and sometimes a bizarre interdisciplinary collage of mayhem.
