Echoes of Tomorrow

Echoes of Tomorrow is a dance theatre production that positions itself in the midst of the complex debate about the significance of the human body in the modern world. In a dystopian and provocative landscape, the idea of the human body as a commodity is made tangible. The piece reflects the fear of the increasing commercialisation and control of the human body by political and economic forces. In an era of media saturation and easily generated images of fear that do not always correspond to reality, we find ourselves in an age of sensations and uncertainties, where the fiction of reality is hard to distinguish. Amidst this confusion and uncertainty, Echoes of Tomorrow focuses on the body as our safe harbour and anchor point, which we can at least partially understand, and over which we can (still) have free will.

Hold

In my work, I seek to go into the complexities of identity, shifting between abstract and theatrical movement to express the fluidity of who we are. The body becomes a canvas, a vessel through which emotions are not only felt but also embodied and released. At the same time, the sense of belonging to a group is important to this process. The group, in its diversity, is a reflection of the broader human experience. The individual shapes the group, just as the group shapes the individual. Sometimes the group will appear as a constellation but not as a fixed structure; a living, breathing entity - a dance of balance and tension.

It's the why not the how

Maura Morales, together with composer and musician Michio Woirgardt, will invite you to dive into the the Cooperativa Maura Morales' way of working and creating. You will get an insight into Maura Morales' unique, intimate, and expressive movement language, which fundamentally explores the potential and limits of the moving body, as well as the importance of the why, before the how, during a creative process. The close correlation between movement and sound, the tangible, visible and audible communication between choreography and music, as equal partners and actors in the performance, are a core element of Cooperativa's aesthetic work. Music and dance are to be understood as equal dialogical partners in production and performance, which is also part of the aesthetic uniqueness of Cooperativa: the body always appears as a resonating and sounding body, the musical compositions are the guiding impulse for the movement and, at the same time, a direct reflection. We'll explore the dynamics/rhythms of movement, the valuable guide that music is when listened to attentively while creating. You will work on an organic and dynamic dramaturgy, which orchestrates the rhythms and dynamisms that affect the performer on a nervous, sensorial and emotional level. A journey from the visible and the invisible between the intellectual and the intuitive. To enter with our stories and language into other bodies and then let them free. Alone with their body/mind, their interpretation and own needs.
