Microphone Controller

Microphone Controller: Simultaneously, a dance solo and sensory concert.

Songs, Signs (ASL), speeches, moans, thrashes, come together to create a sonic, vibrating, visual concert experience. A celebration of Voice. Seen Voice. Heard Voice. Felt Voice. Homaging the likes of Prince, Freddie Mercury and David Bowie. Embodying stadium-level rockstars, Sign Language and Dance.

Working with a team of CODA, Deaf, hearing, and hard of hearing artists, Lukas Malkowski explores accessibility and identity; blending spectacle with personal and political perspectives as a CODA(Child of Deaf Adult). Each scene of this performance is saturated with bright lights and heavy vibrational bass; often engaging 2-3 senses simultaneously. This semi-fictional docudrama concert weaves Speech, Sign, and Dance to tell the story of the rockstar Microphone Controller, challenging societal notions of ‘Voice’ and ‘Music’ with Deaf and CODA perspectives.
