Antonin Rioche

fUNNY PEOPLE

antonin rioche has always been a creator and a storyteller, and dance happens to be one of his predominant mediums. he is also passionate about poetry, painting, photographing, and filming. antonin creates through different lenses of expression. movement is a root of creation but not automatically the starting point. his works often depart from a text that he writes. from there, poetic interpretations emerge. time passing is a recurrent theme in his pieces. for korzo he created the others and finally a sign of life, both for here we live and now, editions 2018 and 2019. in 2021 he was invited by nederlands dans theater and korzo to create his first full length evening performance, glitter. this year he presented a new full length evening performance in october 2022, ohgirl!, co-produced by nederlands dans theater. aside from stage works, antonin works often with film as a medium. his first solo in 2017, oh boy!, and his latest film, the research project: the leftovers, and finally a sign of life, have been nominated and selected for several film festivals and awards.

it's so berlin!

Very inspired from my last trip to Berlin and the festival; I want to transform those feelings into poetic images, and little stories told through monologues by the performers themselves, based on their personal experiences while living in the city. The participants will work together both in pairs as in groups, in order to create all the material for the piece. I want to generate a playful and inspiring environment and see what comes out of it!

Annamari Keskinen & ryan mason

thar be dragons

Annamari Keskinen, born in 1985, is a Finnish performer and choreographer, and one of the founding members of dance theatre company Thar Be Dragons. for The last 18 years, Annamari has been working internationally in the field of dance. Her professional career consists of over 60 productions, including her own choreographic creations. Annamari’s staged works live within sustained psycho-physical spaces, suspending both audience and performers in states of contrast, pathos, empathy, and reflection. In her works and teaching, she draws upon her experience as a choreographer and performer to guide participants through multilayered states of research and performance. Her recent inquiries in movement research explore psychological and physical attunements within intense atmospheric and sonic topographies. 'At the center of my artistic work, resesarch and performance is vulnerability and what it means to embrace it and breathe with it. I am endlessly inspired by the oscillations of the approach and withdrawal and transcendence of this place; where the vibrating edges within ourselves soften and fold into each other.'

Ryan Mason is a choreographer, performer, and teacher based in Helsinki, Finland. In 2018, he co-founded, with his partner, Annamari Keskinen, Thar Be Dragons - a dance theatre platform for research, education, and performance. He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography, in 2007. His work is a detailed approach often involving layers of sustained improvisational states within movement and psychological parameters. Ryan searches for enigmatic situations, taking them apart to look at them— for their absurdity, as well as for their sensory possibilities. Ryan danced with the José Limón Company, in NYC, later joining the company of Johannes Wieland at the Staatstheater Kassel, in Germany. There he also served as rehearsal director for two years. Ryan has been choreographing and teaching at higher-level institutions and workshops throughout Europe and North America, such as Springboard Danse Montreal, Hubbard Street Pro, SEAD, NYU Tisch, Anton Bruckner Privatuni, among many others. Ryan is currently working towards his MA in Choreography at TeaK, University of Arts Helsinki.

Thematically, our work will explore the boundary lines of abstraction and representation through shifting proximities of sound and imagery. It is the materiality of sound and bodily illusion, where the materials extend into each other, qualities blending into a warm, detailed fuzz where a specificity, without definition, is created. The reverberations and echoes left over are singular and leave space for the interpretation of the spectator. The starting point of our work comes from the individuality of the people we work with - who they are, how they think, how they feel, and how they move with this. A significant part of this process is getting to know each other. From there, we create the artwork. Our working process places the performer in a state of heightened attention, open and responsive to the different effects cohabiting the space. Placing the mind and its attendance to different states that are enlivened by images or sound leaves us with the question of what xxxx feels like. What does thinking feel like?

felix landerer

Artistic director of Landerer&Company

Felix Landerer ist the artistic director and resident choreographer of his own company Landerer&Company. He has been, and is working, as a guest choreographer for companies like NDT, Ballet BC, Gothenburg Dance Company, Scapino Ballett Rotterdam, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Konzert Theater Bern, and others. In 2010 he won the international choreography competition in Hannover, and in 2017 he won the City of Hannover Cultural Award for outstanding cultural achievement in the city of Hannover. From season 23/24 onwards, he will be artistic director and resident choreographer at the dance company Theater Bielefeld.

The Unattended

Following the same principles as the workshop, participants will be investigating the movement language, choreography and compositional approach of Felix Landerer. This physical language emphasises the specificity of initiation points, the use of the spine as a synthesiser of action, the value of a useful relationship with the floor and a playful search for the details and dynamics that give movement its communicative potential. These principles will be applied to solo and duet work, which will emphasise and demand the performer’s clarity in decision-making. The process will explore how performative possibilities arise as a result of ever-increasing specificity in physicality.
