full body deep dive into the dynamic physicality and wild imagination of dance theatre. Based on a foundation of floorwork, push the heights of physicality, while building strength in flowing smoothly and finding efficiency in riding momentum. from floor to air, soar through highly energetic phrase work with various textures defined by musicality and rhythm. Utilising this powerful grounding base as a gateway into the theatrical realm, excavate characters, emotions, and physical states to explore your range of movement expression. investigate the physical body as a portal between the real world and the surreal. Groove to good music, have fun, and tap into the joy of moving. *Note: you can use your native language in all prompts, you do not need to speak English fluently.

biography

laja field is an international dance theatre creator, performer and educator, whose work spans across the U.S, Canada, Central America, and Europe. Notably, Laja has been an adjunct professor at NYU | Tisch and a choreographer for the Second Avenue Dance Company. She performs for Victor Rottier | greywax dance company and collaborates with Jessie Lee Thorne on live productions and films like Topia, which won best dance film on indie short fest, and is streaming on apple tv and amazon. Originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, Laja’s professional trajectory took flight after meeting guest artist Johannes Wieland at the University of Utah, where she earned a BFA. She joined Staatstheater Kassel, Germany, performed extensively in Wieland productions and work by luminaries, Hofesh Shechter, Stella Zannou, and Chris Haring. Laja relocated to nyc, bringing her style of floorwork and quickly became a teacher at Peridance and Gibney. She was also a founding member and rehearsal director with Vim Vigor. Through years collaborating with Martin Durov, LajaMartin was co-founded, toured the globe, and they shared their last work with Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in 2022. Since then, Laja is based out of a suitcase and has traveled for commissions to Calgary with Project InTandem, Spain teaching for Deltebre Dansa, Montréal for Danse à la Carte’s Transformation, and returns annually to the b12 festival in Berlin. Laja remains curious about weaving physical ferocity with cinematic dreamscapes.
