roni chadash
choreographer
physical body language + repertoire
in this workshop, we will deepen and enter the specific physical language that roni has developed over the years — a movement language that grows from her own body, its abilities and its unique way of moving. this language is rooted in release technique but has evolved into its own form, with distinct principles and qualities. we will begin by warming up the body through this specific approach, attuning to softness, tracing the body’s edges, using directions in space as an engine for movement and allowing gravity to guide the movement. from there, participants will learn excerpts from roni’s recent works, observing how this embodied language becomes a choreographic tool. alongside learning set material, we will also engage with improvisation tasks that roni uses in her creative process. these tasks invite exploration, presence, curiosity and a willingness to let the body lead without judgment. the workshop offers a space to experience roni’s creative methodology — a meeting point between technical awareness and intuitive discovery, where each participant can find their own connection to movement, composition and the physical language at the core of her work.
the description reflects an artist’s idea which was developed at the time it was submitted to b12. it may have changed by the time the workshop or the performance project is starting. please stay flexible. thank you!
biography
roni chadash (1990) is a choreographer, dancer and contemporary dance teacher based in tel aviv. in her movement research, roni is deconstructing the body into multiple joints that function independently. her continuous quest revolves around uncovering instinctive, emotional and unfiltered sources for movement. roni’s creations are marked by her daring attempt to deconstruct not only the body but also the very essence of movement, visual representations, the dynamic interplay between the audience and the performers and the act of the show itself. the way she deals with the body peels it from history, stereotypes and dictated labelling and confronts it with a naked present. in her initial years of creating, roni focused on solo works, exploring her body's instincts, desires and specific physicalities, which led to the development of a distinctive movement language and vocabulary. since 2017, she has been collaborating with various performers, exploring the intersection between her movement language and their bodies. roni's works received numerous awards for their originality, in israel as well as abroad. her works are presented worldwide and she has been commissioned to create pieces for theatres abroad, including staatstheater kassel and pfalztheater kaiserslautern.
